The MHIST offers the following:

The Military History Instructors Course (MHIC). A two week course for ROTC cadre and other Army and DoD personnel who teach military history.

A625: The Army Field & Unit Historian Course. A course that teaches the tasks and responsibilities of an Army Field Historian. Commissioned officers with a graduate degree in history (or a similar field) will be nominated for a 5X (Army Historian) Skill Identifier upon completion of the course. The US Army Center of Military History is the awarding agent.

There are two versions of the A625 Course:

  • Command and General Staff College Resident Course. Open to all CGSC students, but mandatory for all MMAS-H Students.
  • Distance Learning Course. A self-paced course open to non-CGSC students. See A625 Page for eligibility.

Inspections and Curriculum Development. The MHIST participates in inspections of all TRADOC centers’ and schools’ military history instruction curriculum to ensure compliance with guidance issued in TRADOC Regulation 870-1. The team assists in developing improved curriculum based on inspection results.
