While experimenting with ChatGPT, Russell G. Conrad, assistant professor in the Department of Tactics at the US Army Command and General Staff College, asked the program to “write a brigade operations order for an attack on an objective using an envelopment.” In less than ten seconds, ChatGPT produced an operations order.
He then asked the AI chatbot, “Write the above order using iambic pentameter,” a legacy form of English-language poetic expression introduced by Chaucer in the fourteenth century involving rhyming lines, each written with ten syllables in a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables.

In Alpha’s bounds, where foes entrenched, we find,
A challenge waits, a task to seize the day.
Their strength and fortitude, our minds do bind,
Yet through our unity, we’ll find a way.

With air and art’ry aid at our command.

Through fields and woods, our destiny we bear,
To victory’s cry, in these coming days.
Logistics firm, our sustainment assured,
Medical aid and maintenance at the fore.
In unity, our strength and will secured,
To face the challenge, to win and restore.
Commanders named, in charge of this affair,
To lead with courage, wisdom, and with might.
And signals clear, to guide us through the air,
As we embark upon this daring flight.
This order stands, effective as it’s read,
In every heart, our mission’s purpose fed.
